Dermal Fillers: Types, Results & How Long They Last

Dermal fillers are one of the most versatile tools in non-surgical aesthetics. Used skillfully, they can restore youthful volume, sculpt facial contours, and rejuvenate the appearance without surgery or significant downtime.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to add volume, smooth wrinkles, and restore structure to areas of the face that have lost fullness with age. The most widely used fillers are based on hyaluronic acid (HA) — a naturally occurring sugar molecule that attracts and retains water in the skin.

HA fillers are the gold standard for most facial rejuvenation treatments. They produce immediate results, are adjustable (can be partially or fully dissolved with hyaluronidase), integrate naturally with surrounding tissue, and last 6–18 months depending on the product and treatment area.

At Dr. Andan Clinic, we use Juvederm (Allergan) and Restylane (Galderma) — globally recognised premium brands with extensive safety records.

What Can Dermal Fillers Treat?

Lips: Adding volume, defining the border, correcting asymmetry.

Cheeks: Restoring the youthful apple-of-the-cheek fullness that diminishes with age. Cheek filler also provides a subtle lift to the midface.

Under-eyes (tear troughs): The hollow or shadowed area under the eyes can be softened with careful filler placement.

Jawline: Strengthening a weak or receding jaw and creating a cleaner jaw-to-neck angle.

Chin: Augmenting a slightly short or recessed chin to improve profile balance — a common combination with non-surgical rhinoplasty.

Nose: Non-surgical rhinoplasty using HA filler to camouflage a dorsal hump or lift a drooping tip.

Nasolabial folds and marionette lines: Softening the deep lines running from nose to mouth and mouth to chin.

Temples: Restoring youthful fullness to the upper face where volume loss gives a skeletonised look.

How Long Do Fillers Last?

Lips: 6–9 months. Cheeks: 12–18 months. Jawline and chin: 12–18 months. Under-eyes: 9–12 months. Nose: 12–18 months. Metabolism, lifestyle, and product choice all affect duration.

Are Fillers Safe?

HA fillers have an excellent safety record when administered by a trained medical professional. Serious complications are rare. The most significant risk is vascular occlusion (filler blocking a blood vessel), which is why choosing a qualified medical doctor is critical.

At Dr. Andan Clinic, all filler treatments are performed by Dr. Sogol Andan, a medically qualified aesthetic doctor with specific training in facial anatomy. Hyaluronidase is always on hand.
